Treasures from the Stadtmuseum Ingolstadt

In the permanent exhibition, the subsequent stages of Ingolstadt’s history are displayed in 41 rooms. During a tour of the museum, which goes far beyond the scope of a “local-history museum”, visitors may experience the history of Ingolstadt from its beginnings to the present day. A toy museum is attached to the main exhibition.

The most important sections display objects from the Bronze Age, e.g. the unique amber necklace, the discoveries from the Celtic town near Manching, and from the Roman period including remains of a mill. Romanesque and Gothic stone sculptures illustrate the mediaeval town development as does the Sandtner model of 1571 for the duchy of Bavaria-Ingolstadt. The university period, the wars of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, Jesuit culture, enlightenment and the illuminati are explained by collectibles including the Coin Cabinet. The city’s history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is also presented, while a separate department is dedicated to crafts and industry. In Hundszell, the Farmers’ Equipment Museum deals with agriculture as a branch museum.
