Description
This personal letter in English, written in his own hand by the 17-year-old Prince Alfred, constitutes a moving testimonial. It is held at the Coburg Autograph Collection, which dates back to the initiative of his father Prince Albert. Alfred greets his parents on 30 June 1861 from his sea journey aboard a ship of the Navy from Canada, where he visited the landscape park Cataraqui in Quebec. As Alfred reports, he wrote the letter in Indian style on a piece of birch bark, which he had removed from a tree that same afternoon.
