Kartogramme und Diagramme zur Statistik Bayerns

Bayerisches Landesamt für Statistik

Description

Compiled around 1880, the collection encompasses maps and diagrams on the statistics of Bavaria of the years 1862 to 1879. These illustrate the actual situation regarding demographics, agriculture, crime or the education system. The omnibus volume contains maps from various publications of the then Royal Bavarian Statistical Office ("königlich-bayerisches Statistisches Bureau") from the years 1862 to 1879. The convolute of maps was then bound to form one representative volume presumably around 1880. The individual maps are glued onto thick sheets and separated from each other by white protective sheets. The director of the statistical office from 1869 to 1879, Georg Mayr (1841-1925), was an important advocate of the cartographic method for representing statistical results. The maps relate to various topics concerning the statistics of the Kingdom of Bavaria, for example Agricultural yields, Crime statistics, Infant mortality or Regional distribution of personal characteristics. The maps and diagrams are consequently a rich source on the social and economic history of the kingdom of Bavaria in the 1860s and 1870s. Autor: Florian Sepp/Hildegard Lorenz
