Description

Erhart der Hartlieb and Michel der Chramrar, both citizens of Straubing, with the consent of Simonkastner Lienhart dem Gotschalich and on behalf of their families and heirs, sell their house on the market opposite the bread stands to the council, the citizens and the town of Straubing. The sale is without prejudice to the annual lien. A right of repurchase is not granted. The seal-holders are Erhart der Hartlieb and Michel der Chramrar and members of Straubing town council.

The Straubing town hall was an important prestige property for the Straubing middle classes striving for autonomy. The former merchant’s building was converted for the needs of the citizens, including a town hall chamber for council elections, christening ceremonies, weddings, fairs and diets. The exterior and interior appearance of the town hall changed constantly. There is evidence of a reconstruction in the first half of the 16th century with Renaissance style elements, the demolition of the Gothic gable in 1828 and the redesign of the façade in 1892/1893 in the neo-Gothic style. The town hall was extended in the 20th century through the purchase of neighbouring buildings and is still the administrative centre of the town of Straubing today. On 25 November 2016, the historic town hall in Straubing was severely damaged by fire and has been under reconstruction ever since.
