The Kingdom of Bavaria was a constitutional monarchy and the constitutional charter of 1818 thus formed the legal basis of the state. Together with the crown insignia, it therefore played an outstanding role in the concept of the state. They were important props, for example at the opening and closing sessions of parliament, where they were presented to the public. In accordance with its great importance for the Bavarian state, the constitutional charter of 1818 received a ceremonial place of honour in an artfully created ark. Today the Ark of the Constitution is part of the collections of the Bavarian State Parliament.
