State ministers, leading administrative officials and (NS-) functionaries in Bavaria, 1918 to 1945
The relatively short period between 1918 and 1945, constituted for Bavaria a phase of immense societal as well as political changes. Starting with the sudden end of the kingdom, the proclamation of the Free State and the episode of the Bavarian Soviet Republic were followed by the "Machtübernahme" (seizure of power) of National Socialism and WWII. The political developments during these years finally led to the occupation by the American allied forces and towards the democratic (re-)construction of Bavaria.
Nearly 1,000 biogrammes – ranging from the state governor to the directors of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (Bavarian State Library) – in the database of officeholders compiled by Joachim Lilla (1951-2020) help analyse nearly all branches of the state administration in Bavaria during the period between November 1918 and Mai 1945. These biogrammes are intentionally kept short but state the current scientific knowledge concerning the respective person and hope to provide both foundation and inspiration for future research.
The documentation is a project also searchable via the name index on bavarikon.
