The Collection “Vorherr plans”
The collection of the so-called "Vorherr plans" consists of 30 large-format, mostly coloured sheets. The plans were commissioned around 1810 by the "königlichen Kreisbauinspektor" (royal building inspector) for the Isar district (today Upper Bavaria) Johann Michael Christoph Gustav Vorherr (1778-1847) and made by local masters of various building trades. The plans drawn around 1812 show measurements of farmhouses with views, sections and ground plans as well as site plans, often supplemented by detailed legends. The drawings convey a vivid impression of the diversity of rural building and living culture. With his collection of rural buildings, Vorherr wanted to develop ideal plans for agricultural buildings. He believed he had found the models for this in buildings in the Isar district.
