The Bavarian Dukes Order the Announcement of the Third Religious Mandate, 1531 (Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv, Kurbayern Mandatensammlung 1531 VI 5)

Duke Louis X of Bavaria (1495–1550, duke 1514–1545) sent out the third Bavarian religious mandate of 19 May 1531 together with a printed order. He had it executed by the Landshut printer Johann Weißenburger (d. 1535/36).

The letter was addressed to the officials, manorial lords, abbots and mayors and was written in his name and in that of his brother, Duke William IV (1493–1550, duke 1508–1550). The letter requested that the resolutions of the Augsburg imperial recess of 1530 and of the accompanying religious mandate would be obeyed. To this end, the text should be read out publicly from the pulpits and in front of the churches.
