Reports of the Ducal-Bavarian Burgraves about the Parishes in the Revenue Office Landshut, 1524 (Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv, GR Fasz. 622 Nr. 285)

After the Ratisbon Conference, the Bavarian dukes had commissioned their burgraves as local ministers to send reports about the parishes on 5 August 1524. This document contains the reports received from the revenue office Landshut. They are sorted according to parishes and branch churches. The respective priest or vicar is named, the respective appointment rights for the positions is listed as well as any pensions and other funds belonging to the parish.

In addition, the fees demanded at funerals and the donations received by the respective churches by wills were also reported. A more comprehensive evaluation of the reports was not carried out. However, the list of parishes, the incumbents of the parish offices and the staffing rights served as a basis for the first Bavarian parish description in 1526.

The survey and the reports came very close to a church visitation. The responsible bishops therefore considered the activity of the Bavarian dukes to be an encroachment on their rights. As secular sovereigns, the dukes sent out a clear signal on the expansion of their ecclesiastical sovereignty with this action.
