Collection of Portraits and Prospects
The collection of portraits and prospects is the core collection of the Picture Archive of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (Bavarian State Library). It comprises over 28,000 single sheets in the original techniques of the graphical arts (woodcuts, copper-, steel- and wood etchings, lithographs etc.), photos as well as medals and death masks. The collection contains illustrations of:
- Personages from science, music and literature
- Rulers of Europe and (in some cases) beyond
- Artists
- Depictions from the field of ethnography
- Prospects of cities and buildings, in particular from Bavaria
The collection is completely analysed and searchable on bavarikon.
