digiPress is the central virtual reading room for historical digitised newspapers of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (Bavarian State Library).
The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek owns a substantial stock of newspapers. In particular, Bavarian newspapers were collected in great numbers since the beginnings of the seventeenth century. Next to an acquisition of newspapers with supra-regional importance, the following emphases may be traced thematically which also distinguish themselves by means of the relatively high number of unique titles:
- Revolutionary papers of all political factions (1848/49)
- Party newspapers of all stripes
- Catholic press in Bavaria
- Papers published by societies and associations
- Humorous-satirical prints (in particular 1850s to the 1920s)
- Newspaper inserts and official gazettes (in the case of the latter a considerable war loss needs to be recorded)
A large part of the historical supply of newspapers has already been digitised. These texts are now made available via the newspaper portal digiPress.
Each of the digitised newspapers may be called up through a list of their titles. A particular service consists in this case in the possibility to sort them geographically. A calendrical presentation makes the chronological access across titles possible. The texts of most newspapers may also be searched in full.
digiPress is an independent collection:
