The estate of Heinrich Knight von Reder (1824–1909) – Rederiana

Heinrich Reder (1824–1909), knight von Reder since 1871, was an officer, writer and artist. After studying at the Academy of Forestry in Aschaffenburg, he pursued a military career and advanced to the rank of Major General. Reder was a member of the Munich circle of poets "Die Krokodile" (Crocodiles), which existed between 1856 and 1883 and dedicated itself to classicist-idealistic poetry. He composed several volumes of poetry; in addition to his powerful "Soldatenlieder" (Soldiers' Songs, Rederiana I) and "Gedichten" (Poems, Rederiana II), he also wrote the fairy tale epic "Wotans Herr. Märe aus dem Odenwald" (Wotan's Lord. A Tale from the Odenwald, 1892) and atmospheric landscape descriptions in "Mein Wanderbuch" (My Travelling Book, 1895). Together with the Regensburg publicist Adalbert von Müller (1802–1879), Reder is one of the discoverers of the Bavarian Forest in the nineteenth century ("Der Bayerwald", 1861). As an artist, he mainly painted landscapes with motifs from the Dachau moss, from mountain ranges, as well as from Italy and Spain.

Reder’s estate comprises seven volumes. It contains mainly manuscripts and prints of Reder’s works, Reder’s letters and transcribed songs by Georg Betzel from his estate.

Parts of the estate were digitised for bavarikon and are available here, for example a print of the "Soldatenlieder", galley proofs of the "Gedichte" with handwritten corrections as well as the volume of poetry "Federzeichnungen aus Wald und Hochland" (Pen and Ink Drawings from the Forest and Highland).
