Brückner, Max: View of the church of St Augustin in Coburg.

In the predominantly Protestant Coburg, the new Catholic parish church St Augustin was built from 1855–1860 onwards with a crypt dedicated as burial ground for the Catholic branch of the ducal House of Coburg-Koháry. In 1884/85 the crypt was extended under the nave. Here, the founders of this princely tomb, Prince August Ludwig and Princess Clementine d’Orléans, their son Tsar Ferdinand and other members of the family were to be laid to rest. In this pencil drawing, the Coburg-based draughtsman, landscape and scenic painter, Max Brückner, recorded the neo-Gothic church building from the borders of the court garden.
