Formal Components

In order to create confidence in emergency money as a means of payment, the formal design was based on official tender, i.e. the imperial banknotes.

In comparison, the graphic shows an emergency note and an imperial banknote with their formal characteristics. The colours stand for:

Red: Name of the banknote
Purple: Name of the issuer
Green: Value and currency specification
Blue: Date
Yellow: Signatures of the representatives of the issuing authority
White: Control number

These formal details are still an integral part of banknote design today, but the date is not always used.
