The Staatsgalerie Ansbach

In the sumptuous gallery of the Ansbach Residence, visitors encounter selected works of Flemish, Dutch and French Baroque painting. From still-lifes to portraits, paintings of all genres are exhibited – even brilliant genre paintings such as "The Secret Lover" by Jean-Baptiste Le Prince or Jan Both’s "Roman Folk Scene" can be discovered here. The adjacent picture cabinet shows works by local court artists. Only some of the works on display come from the margrave's original collection: today, the exhibition is dominated by numerous high-quality paintings from other sources.

Architecture

In the eighteenth century, the Ansbach Residence, originally from the late Middle Ages, was rebuilt by Gabriel di Gabrieli (1671-1747) and by Karl Friedrich von Zocha (1683-1749) in its present appearance.

The Staatsgalerie Ansbach is affiliated to the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen.
