Poems to Otto Braun

The estate of Otto Braun (1824-1900), Brauniana 16, contains an exlibris and poems by and to Otto Braun by other poets which he had copied out, among them members of the Munich poets association "crocodiles", such as Hermann Lingg (1820-1905), Friedrich Bodenstedt (1819-1892), Ludwig Laistner (1845-1896) or Julius Grosse (1828-1902).

Braun wrote and translated poems ("Aus allerlei Tonarten. Verdeutschte spanische und eigene Lyrik", 1893) and devoted himself especially to the feuilleton. From 1860 to 1889, he was editor of the Allgemeine Zeitung, which was highly regarded in the German Federation, and from 1 March 1869 became its editor-in-chief. In 1891, the Cotta-Verlag made him edit its Musen-Almanach in Stuttgart, which Braun would publish until 1900.

Among the dedication poems there is a printed poem supplement by the journalist Georg Christian Petzet (1832-1905) "zur Jubelfeier" of Otto Braun on 15 October 1885 for the occasion of his 25th anniversary at the Allgemeine Zeitung. At the end it says: "Fest steh' gleich ihm der Bau auf starken Füßen, / Im Kern vom Zeitenwechsel unberührt! / Ein Jeder thu', wie er, getreu das Seine, / Dann steht es wohl um Cotta's Allgemeine!"
