The Bayerisches Wirtschaftsarchiv

The Bayerisches Wirtschaftsarchiv (The Bavarian Business Archive) is the central institution for the preservation of historically significant original documents from Bavaria's business life. It takes over and looks after archival material from the Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce, from societies, associations and leading business figures as well as from companies in Bavaria - primarily from the areas of industry, trade and services. The Bayerisches Wirtschaftsarchiv therefore makes a significant contribution to documenting the economic development of Bavaria and its regions since entering the age of industrialisation.

The Bayerisches Wirtschaftsarchiv was founded in 1994 as the joint institution for all Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce. As a regional business archive for Bavaria as a business location, it has since continued the work of the IHK-Wirtschaftsarchiv (Chambers of Industry and Commerce Business Archive) established in 1986 for Munich and Upper Bavaria on a pan-Bavarian level. The Bayerisches Wirtschaftsarchiv is not legally independent, but organisationally linked to and represented by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria.
