The Early-Medieval burial ground at Oettingen in Bayern, Donau-Ries District, Swabia (approx. 5th-8th Century)

The Early-Medieval burial ground at Oettingen in Bayern is located in the "Auf der Warthe" field in the Donau-Ries district. Two Damascus spathas (swords) and a short seax (cutting weapon) were initially found during sewerage work in 1972. Three years later, in March 1975, a flat grave was discovered with grave goods, partly examined and recovered in a building pit. A rescue excavation was then carried out in front of other buildings on the land. A total of 23 graves could be archaeologically examined and documented. However, other examinations in the finished new buildings' front gardens, which had not been laid yet, were not financially viable.
