The collection „Brandversicherungs-Pläne“(fire insurance plans)

The "Brandversicherungs-Pläne" (fire insurance plans) collection comprises 178 coloured drawings with views, sections and ground plans of rural buildings from all Bavarian administrative districts, including the Rhineland Palatinate. They are named after the "Königliche Brandversicherungs-Kammer" (Royal Fire Insurance Chamber), which commissioned them to be built between 1879 and 1912. The responsible fire insurance inspectors drew up the plans themselves or had them drawn up. Regional focal points are Upper Bavaria and Swabia. The aim was to record construction methods that were already disappearing at the time. At the same time it was about fire protection for the preservation of the buildings.

Immediately after their creation, the leaves were shown at several trade exhibitions and glued to cardboard boxes for this purpose. The individual plans bear witness to the great care and drawing skill of the planners and, despite a certain tendency towards romanticization, usually give a detailed account of everyday reality even within the houses.
