Emmy von Egidy - Ilse Bleiders

In 1902 Egidy published the novel Ilse Bleiders, the story of a beautiful talented girl who shoots herself because she doesn't want to become a mother. Ilse experiences her motherhood not only on a physical level but above all on a spiritual level. "She has lived with the child as long as she can imagine, and now the man steps into her life and makes his demands; it is as if she could not share this, her most sacred property, with him. [...] In the world of women's emancipation, we search in vain for this pure type of woman 'Ilse Bleiders' [...]." (Helene Zillmann, Neue Metaphysische Rundschau – New Metaphysical Review)
