The estate of Eduard von Riedel (1813-1885) - Cod.icon. 207 k, 1-5

The court architect Eduard von Riedel was commissioned by King Ludwig I (ruled 1825-1848) to build King Otto of Greece's residence in Athens. Under King Maximilian II (ruled 1848-1864) he designed, among other things, the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum (Bavarian National Museum) in Munich.

In 1853, Riedel was appointed Court Building Inspector, in 1872 Head of the Court Building Department and Royal Court Building Director; his most famous work is probably the designs for Neuschwanstein Castle, which he made for King Ludwig II (ruled 1864-86).

The estate consists of four volumes in Imperial folio containing original architectural plans, sketches, watercolours and designs by Riedel's hand. Cod.icon. 207 k(5 is the handwritten list of the collection including a biography.
