The Stadtarchiv Dinkelsbühl

The Stadtarchiv Dinkelsbühl (Dinkelsbühl Town Archive) preserves extensive records from the history of the town and its incorporated villages, as well as parts of the archives of the Protestant and Catholic church administration and the hospital.
The collection of about 4,650 documents, the oldest of which is dated to the year 1282, is particularly remarkable.

The official books, invoices and administrative records document, albeit with gaps, life in the town since the 15th century.

In the volumes of the ecclesiastical archives there are many testimonies to the confessional struggles in Dinkelsbühl, which was one of only four parity imperial cities after the Peace of Westphalia.

The hospital archives also contain materials on the history of the associated patronage parishes. Various collections such as newspapers, maps, plans, etc., as well as the deposits by local associations, extend into the present day.

The extensive holdings are supplemented by the council library, whose more than 900 volumes date from the 16th to the 18th century.
