General view of the rebuilt Tucherschloss with new garden area, seen from the northwest

While new residential buildings had already been constructed in the immediate vicinity of the Tucher castle since the early 1950s, it took more than two decades from the end of the war to complete the rebuilt sandstone castle with its annexes.

In the spring of 1968, work had begun on the garden to the north of the castle. Two staircases led to the higher green from the castle: one led directly up from the courtyard, the other via a small side garden created in place of destroyed buildings at the southwest corner of the property. This area was to be shielded from the street by a high sandstone wall. Unlike in former times, the actual garden no longer extended as far as Lange Gasse, which ran along the city wall in the north. Now only half the size, it was separated from the future publicly accessible area by a hedge at the upper end.

The reconstruction of Tucherschloss was completed in the autumn. The official inauguration of the reconstructed Renaissance castle took place on 24 October 1968. However, the builder was not able to witness this celebration: Hans Christoph von Tucher, who wanted to use the building partly as a retirement home and partly as a museum open to the public, had died in London in August of that year.
