Wedding, 1549

Description of the wedding of Paul IV Tucher and Ursula Scheurl, 1549

The manuscript was written by Linhart Tucher together with his son Paul. His wedding with the patrician daughter Ursula Scheurl (1529-1587) in 1549 is described.

The complete lists with the names of the patricians celebrating a patrician wedding, spread over several days, are a veritable "Who’s Who" of the imperial city of Nuremberg’s upper class at that time. One special feature is the complete reproduction of the announcement which the groom’s father Linhart Tucher submitted in the name of his son.

As the day of the church wedding on 10 December 1549 was a Tuesday, the council meeting on this date was cancelled altogether in honour of the Tucher family. Instead, the official "Dance at the Town Hall" was held in the large town hall’s banqueting room. The dances were accompanied by the council’s town musicians under the direction of the organist Paul Lautensack the Elder.
