Karsten de Riese, born in Eisenach in 1942, learned and studied photography in Munich and at the Ulm School of Design. Today he works freelance near Munich.
From 1970 to 1972, he was the officially commissioned photographer for the organising committee of the Olympic Games. From 1982 to 1989 he worked on a long-term project about the East-West German border. He observed the German Bundestag over three legislative periods for a self-portrait. Today, he mostly writes photo contributions for annual reports, public relations brochures, industrial calendars, but also reports from the fields of architecture, culture and society for clients from German business and the press.
The photo archive consists of approx. 390,000 photographs, of which approx. 298,000 are negatives, approx. 85,000 are slides and approx. 15,000 are prints. It was acquired in 2021.
