The Stadtarchiv Straubing

The Stadtarchiv Straubing (Straubing Municipal Archive) is the municipal competent authority for all archiving and records management issues in the town of Straubing. A document from Duke Albrecht I of Straubing-Holland (1336-1404) from 1355 already mentions a "chamber" in which the people of Straubing kept their vested rights. Since 1999, Stadtarchiv Straubing has no longer been located in the town hall, but in the former ducal Salzstadel on the Danube. Since then, the municipal library and municipal archive have filled the renovated functional building with life and formed the "Kulturhaus Salzstadel".

Stadtarchiv Straubing’s holdings

Stadtarchiv Straubing holds documents from the 14th to the 18th century (e.g. privileges of the Bavarian dukes, wills of Straubing patrician families, letters of foundation and purchase) and official records from the 15th to the 21st century (e.g. "Red Book", the town law book around 1472, council minutes since 1556/1642, tax books since 1462, birth, marriage and death registers since 1876). In addition, the holdings include records mainly from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries (e.g. on trade, police, school, church, building, settlement and marriage) and accounts from the 15th to the 21st century from municipal offices and foundations. Another focus is on collections such as the photo collection (including Hanns Rohrmayr (1886-1953), Bruno Mooser (1925-2009), Harry Stern (1922-2006)) and the contemporary history collection (flyers, posters, postcards, commemorative publications, audio and film documents, newspapers and official gazettes).
