Augsburger Liederbuch - BSB Cgm 379

Description

The "Augsburger Liederbuch" from 1454 is one of the most important witnesses of song culture in Augsburg in the 15th century, in addition to the songbook by Clara Hätzlerin (1471). The Cgm 379 manuscript contains a collection of 97 songs, mainly love and student songs, framed by small poems (sayings, riddles, priamels, fairy tales, love speeches etc.) and chronicles from later times. The "Augsburger Liederbuch" was completed on 11 July 1454 in Augsburg according to the scribe's colophon on leaf 147v. The oldest songs date from the 14th century, the most recent from the collector's time. No melodies have been preserved; the authors are mostly unknown, with the exception of Muskatplüt and Oswald von Wolkenstein, among others. Nor do the songs reveal any real principle of order, only the "salutatio" at the beginning directed by a man at a woman seems to correspond to a girl's prose love letter at the end (Elisabeth Wunderle). The manuscript, which has not exactly been carefully written, suggest a compilation of songs intended for current use. Datum: 2016
