Abschiedsbrief an einen nicht näher bekannten Professor

Description

The old-Bavarian popular writer Lena Christ (1881-1920) originated from a world, "which bore its social damnation within itself", which did not allow, "that one placed one's hopes higher than to farmhand or servant" (J. M. Bauer). Her poetic talent was expressed in the realistically tinted and autobiographical "Erinnerungen einer Überflüssigen" (Memories of a Superfluous) as well as in her novels and narratives. Some of her letters provide information about her manner of work, her private living circumstances and problems (on 30 June 1920 she committed suicide). Her final letters are testimonials of despairing helplessness and lack of power. The present autograph of Lena Christ is a letter to an unknown professor, dated to 29 June 1920, the day before her suicide on the Munich Waldfriedhof. As in her letter to Erich Petzet (Petzetiana IV b, 12) Lena Christ thanks the addressee for everything and asks him for help for her daughter Alicerl: "Helfen Sie ihr ein wenig fort in dieser Welt und betrachten Sie im Übrigen meinen Schritt als Ehrenrettung für meine Angehörigen und meinen Namen. Denken und reden Sie nicht schlecht von mir." (Please help her a little in this world and please look at my step as vindication for my relatives and for my name. Please do not think or speak badly of me). Datum: 2016
