The Windberg psalms are a Latin-German translation work probably written in 1174 in the Premonstratensian monastery of Windberg near Straubing. In addition to the psalms, the cantica and the tedeum, it contains catechetical texts teaching aspects of faith, a series of prayers and a calendar with additional notes. As was usual with psalter translations in the 12th century, the German translation was written word for word between the lines, sometimes with several translation suggestions (interlinear version). The manuscript is well preserved and shows few signs of wear. The work was written by two very similar hands. The work belongs to the circle of the Millstätter, Trierer and Wolfenbütteler psalms, which in detail represent considerable deviations in the treatment of the common archetype. The Windberger Psalter marks an important station on the path of the Germanisation of psalms from the time of Charlemagne to Luther (Ernst Hellgardt). Datum: 2016
