Description

The Dominican Johannes Tauler (c. 1300-1361) from Strasbourg dealt more with questions of Christian living and becoming one with God than with purely theological topics in his sermons. The approximately 80 authentic sermons are authorised by Tauler himself and were already collated in collections sorted by church year during his lifetime. In the 15th century the corpus was present in various editorial offices, including the "Großen" and the "Kleiner Tauler". Tegernsee monastery borrowed both codices from the Augustinian monastery of Rebdorf near Eichstätt and made copies of them in 1458. The Tauler sermons served as manuscripts for daily use and for the edification of lay brothers at both monasteries. Page 1r starts with a coloured foliage initial and a leaf and flower tendril in the margin, the biblical words are in bold Bastarda Gothic script. Datum: 2016
