The illegitimate officer's daughter born in Vienna married the Austrian art historian Hubert Janitschek (1846-1893) in 1882. She soon became a committed author of the women's movement, which provoked violent reactions among the empire's patriarchal society. In her poem "Ein modernes Weib", for example, she already demands the right to restore a woman's honour with a fatal outcome for the man. However, Maria Janitschek (1859-1927) cannot be clearly assigned. Between 1895 and 1902 twelve works by her appeared, including essays, novellas, novels and poems. She already moved to Munich before 1902, where she was celebrated in the literary salon of Carry Brachvogel (1864-1942) as a "hot-blooded beautiful erotic". During the First World War she also wrote light fiction and she was one of the best-known authors in Munich in 1925. Her work comprises about 50 books. The novel "Mimikry" by Maria Janitschek (1859-1927) was published in 1903. "A piece of modern life", "a flaming protest against 'adaptability', that serious main feature of modern humanity, against the abandonment of its idiosyncrasy and its own character in the levelling gear of life.
