Description

In the "Geschichte des Lechrains" (History of the Lech riverbank region) Johann Georg Lori (1723-1787) attends to his own native region. The work remained incomplete. The only published volume is the second volume containing the sources, whereas the first volume with the text representation was never completed. The source volume contains 520 deeds from the period between 1030 and 1765, with only few items dating back to the time before the middle of the 13th century. Most of the earlier items still remain unprinted until today. The term "Lechrain" is misleading insofar as today, this name for a landscape is predominantly applied to the district of Landsberg am Lech. In contrast, Lori addresses the history of the complete border region of Bavaria to Swabia, from the region of Füssen in the south to Donauwörth. Regarding the content, the spectrum of printed texts is very broad. The texts relate to sovereign rights, among other things (also the legacy of Conradin), issues relating to borders and descriptions of borders, hydraulic structures on the Lech, privileges for monasteries, cities, market towns and villages, issues related to hunting and hunting grounds reserved to the sovereign, rights of use of forests and pastures and trade and transport (passage, staple rights, the cooperative transport system ("Rottfuhrwesen"), tariffs, taxes and value-added tax ("Ungeld").
