Mensuralcodex St. Emmeram

Bayerische Staatsbibliothek

Description

Named after its long-standing place of storage, the Regensburg Benedictine monastery of St Emmeram, the mensural codex is a composite manuscript with both a sacred and a secular repertoire, dating back to the last quarter of the fourteenth century. It contains 276 mensurally notated pieces, the transcription of which stretched over several decades. This fact is indicated by the diversity of paper types used and the minimum of 16 different hands employed. The original collector, owner and user of the Codex was first documented in 1981. It was the Emmeram School Principal Conrad Hermann Poetzlinger (d. 20.3.1469). Together with Poetzlinger's library, the manuscript reached the monastery of Sankt Emmeram after his death. Datum: 2016
