Alte Pinakothek

Description

Castor and Pollux (Polydeuces), sons of Leda and Zeus, abducted Hilaeira und Phoebe, the daughters of King Leucippus of Argos, shortly before their wedding. - Rubens succeeded in accommodating four people and two horses in movement within a square canvas, while still preserving a certain degree of naturalness. An elaborate choreography forms the basis of the group.
