Description

Neustadt a.d. Aisch was already an important garrison location when it belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia, and this did not change when the town was annexed to the Kingdom of Bavaria by Napoleon’s decree in 1810. However, when the location was first to be renovated and then extended, the town and the state were short of money. A citizens’ initiative was formed to keep the garrison and therefore the purchasing power of the soldiers as well as the stimulating effect of the military on the local economy in Neustadt. Founded in 1834 as one of the first real joint-stock companies in Bavaria, this “stable construction company” made a major contribution to financing the construction of new stables for initially 60 to 70 service horses for the military. Even though the shares issued were bearer shares and not registered shares, the 72 founding shareholders were strictly forbidden on several occasions to assign their papers to outside interested parties as the capital and associated decision-making authority were to remain concentrated in Neustadt at all costs.
