Description

Obverse: upper right Coat of Arms of the Electorate of Saxony: Split, on the left two crossed swords, on the right divided, decorated with a diamond wreath

As a result of the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), the Electorate of Saxony owed more than 40 million talers. Therefore, Elector Friedrich August III decided in 1772 to issue paper money, called cash slips. These were not legal means of payment, but had to be exchanged for coins upon request. The cash slips were very popular and were issued again and again until the foundation of the empire in 1871.
