The coat dress is from the Swabian label Mickhausen. The elegant A-line shape with stand-up collar and the floral pattern of the man-made jacquard fibre interwoven with gold threads give this piece a festive look.
Benedikt von Fürstenberg (1911-2004) founded the Schwäbische Wäsche- und Miederfabrik (Swabian underwear and bodice factory) in Mickhausen (Augsburg district) in 1946, providing employment for many women in the area. The company produced children’s clothing from around 1948, and later also teenage fashion.
The Mickhausen Modelle gained international fame in the 1970s. The sewing of the elegant women’s collections was done in the countryside, but the patterns were designed by fashion designers in Munich. One of them was Renate Günthert (1935-2011), the founder of the Rena Lange brand. A major fire in April 1982 meant the abrupt end of the clothing factory. With it, another location of the once important Swabian textile industry disappeared.
