Griff eines Gefäßes in Gestalt einer liegenden Gazelle

Staatliches Museum Ägyptischer Kunst München

Description

The gazelle, whose horns are only partially preserved, is lying on the ground with its forelegs folded under and its hind legs stretched out. Its fur is represented by many small, indented dots.

Based on the broken edges, the animal figure must have originally sat on the rim of a large, shallow bowl, which was probably used for cult rituals, given its elaborate decoration. Bowls with round sculptural figures of animals inside have also survived in pottery.
