Tischuhr mit arabischen Kardinalzahlen (Tischuhr mit arabischen Ziffern, 1601-1700)

Deutsches Museum

Description

The table clock has a clockwork mechanism and an hour strike mechanism, where the clockwork mechanism is equipped with a fusée-and-chain transmission. The verge escapement has a circular balance. The movement consists of plates and a train made of fire-gilded brass. The case is also made of fire-gilded brass, the dial is coloured. The hours and minutes are indicated by Arabic cardinal numbers.

The iron blued hand, which ends in a tulip motif, points to the Arabic hour numerals 1 to 12. The big "0" stands for the 5. The longer hand points to the minute scale, which is marked by the Arabic numerals 5, 10, 15, … 55 and minute markings. The clock was therefore intended for the Turkish market.

The case is pierced on the sides with floral motifs.
