Description
Religious themes and representations of the cross often find their way into Fritz Koenig's work as commissioned works but are also created on his own impetus. Fritz Koenig intensively dealt with formulations on the subject of "votive" in the 1960s. At the same time, he was fascinated by the figure of Caryatid designed as a supporting column. He linked these two subjects both formally and in terms of content and developed the group of works of the Caryatid Crosses, which the "Great Cross IV" belongs to.
