Pittrof Pottery (1777-1926)
The journeyman potter Conrad Pittrof marries into Thurnau in 1777. He founds the Pittrof pottery in today's town hall square, which is continued by his son and grandson until 1880. His second grandson, Johann Valentin Pittrof's hiking book and application for a concession to set up his own workshop on the Mittlerer Markt have been preserved. Fritz Pittrof, Johann Valentin's son, converted the workshop to motor-driven machines as early as before 1900, probably as the first potter in Thurnau. Since he has no descendants, the pottery closes in 1926.
The main products were fireproof cookware with a honey yellow transparent glaze and dinnerware slip-glazed using a slip trailer.
