Tittmann Pottery (since 1974)
In 1975, Claus Tittmann founded a pottery in Berndorf, a district of Thurnau. Following the traditional Thurnau pottery craft, Tittmann first began to produce crockery with engobe or faience painting. Inspired by a study trip to Japan though, he soon became involved in stoneware production and raku firing. In his workshop, he creates artistically unique pieces, mainly figurative sculptures on the theme of man and animal. Claus Tittmann was awarded the Bayerischer Staatspreis gold medal in 1980. Works by him can be found in the Keramikmuseum Berlin, Veste Coburg's art collections, the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, the Hetjens-Museum Düsseldorf, the Kunstgewerbemuseum Cologne and the Grassi Museum Leipzig, among others.
