Grimm pottery (18th c. - 1884)
The surname Grimm first appears in the church records of Thurnau in 1777: it was in that year that journeyman potter Conrad Pittroff married the daughter of master potter Conrad Grimm. In 1865, Georg Grimm married into Thurnau and two years later acquired a property behind what is now the Pottery Museum (Krähwinkel 5), into which he built a kiln. The pottery closed down in 1884.
Ceramics were discovered in the false floor of the property at Krähwinkel 1, adjacent to the former Grimm pottery, which are presumed to be from the Grimm Pottery but bear no workshop stamp or name.
