Image Database „Auf dem Land“

The history of agriculture in Bavaria and of its folkloristic cultural context is documented at the media archive of the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte (House of Bavarian History) by three groups of photographic images: Kali & Salz, Groth-Schmachtenberger and Heck. The photos preserved confirm in particular for the twentieth century the changing use made of the soil under the influence of new fertilisers as well as the topographical appearance of the countryside. They attest to the character and change of farming work by means of the adoption of new machinery. Finally, rural customs, folkloristic celebrations and pastimes are documented as well.
