Manuscripts from the Zisterzienserinnenabtei Seligenthal’s archive

25 manuscripts from the Zisterzienserinnenabtei Seligenthal's (Cistercian Abbey of Seligenthal) archive in Landshut are presented in bavarikon. These provide an insight into the convent's 780 years of history and culture.

Important pieces include the "Necrologium Saeldentalense", which was created around 1319 and contains the names of the deceased who were remembered in the convent's daily prayer. One special feature are the "Annales Seldentalenses", a chronological, historical list of events between the foundation of the Cistercian Order in 1108 and the year 1295 (with continuations from 1310 to 1347), which are contained in the obituary.

At the end of the 17th century, the convent cantor Maria Hildegard Pluembl (1630-1711) began to draw up annals of the convent since its foundation. This historical work was continued in the 18th century and after the re-foundation of the convent in 1835 until after the Second World War. Abbess M. Floriana Stegmüller's diary must also be mentioned, which was written during the War of the Second Coalition against Napoleon's France and provides detailed information about wartime events from July 1800 to April 1801.

The collection contains manuscripts from the early modern period that served the practical needs of monastery administration and monastic life, such as the abbey and house books, a pharmacy book and a kitchen book from 1742.

This collection is part of the holdings of the Zisterzienserinnenabtei Seligenthal (Cistercian Abbey of Seligenthal).
