The Bayerischer Landesverein für Heimatpflege e. V.

The Bayerischer Landesverein für Heimatpflege e.V. (Bavarian State Association for Local Traditions and History) is a civic association with around 7,000 members. This includes individuals, around 800 municipalities as well as cultural organisations and associations. It assumes the Free State of Bavaria’s constitutional cultural mandate within the framework of the task of preserving local traditions and history. It provides advice and information through personal contact, offers educational measures (e.g. events, conferences, cultural trips, projects), supports the (voluntary) guardians of local cultural heritage in Bavaria and issues publications.

The association’s magazines "Schönere Heimat" and "Der Bauberater" are published four times a year. The state association also has an extensive specialised library and a historical archive.

The main focus of its activities is the Bavarian-wide representation of the interests of the preservation of local traditions and history in politics, society and the public. The state association’s areas of work include the topics of monument protection and preservation, regional building culture, cultural landscape, regional historical research, customs, dialects, traditional costumes and folk music.

Since its foundation in 1902, the state association has been committed to the responsible preservation and further development of local natural and historical features.
