Die Pfalz-Neuburgische Landesaufnahme: Das Landgericht Graisbach (Hauptkarte, Ausfertigung)

Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv

Description

Philipp Rehle the Elder (also: Röhnle, Renlin et al.) (1545–1598) is one of the masters of Southwest German land map painting. In 1591 he delivered the fourth work for the Palatinate-Neuburg topographic survey with his portrayal for Graisbach District Court. Rehle's portrayals impress due to the precise reproduction of towns and castles and by generally communicating the geographical settlement and cultural conditions successfully. A map of Giengen Forest documented by Rehle is regarded as an exceptional accomplishment from the late Renaissance; it can be found in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum (German National Museum) today. The map of Graisbach District Court, which was produced in the same year, is hardly known, since it was kept in the Neuburg registry for a long time and was not published.
