[Stammbuch der Familie Donauer]

Privatbesitz

Description

Family registers are important cultural, historical sources and far more than just "gimmicks", which have been continued in the present in the form of children's autograph books. One important monument of this source genre is the so-called "Stammbuch der Donauer". Created by the Protestant clergyman Christoph Donauer (1564-1611), who worked in Regensburg, it provides important insights into the social and everyday history of the imperial city of Regensburg. There are entries on 844 pages in total not only from Regensburg, but also from Ansbach, Altdorf, Antwerp, Darmstadt, Dresden, Hamburg, Helmstedt, Linz, Jena, Heidelberg, Lübeck, Nuremberg or Wernigerode, to list just a few selected places. The family register bookkeeper, Christoph Donauer, collected handwritten entries from friends or acquaintances here. No fewer than 466 people are immortalised here. Many of them with coloured coats of arms or other paintings. The collection began in February 1599 and continued until 1608. A few entries date from later times. In particular, the Regensburg Religious Discussion in 1601 produced numerous entries. Datum: 2019
